Release new version >8.1.0

Thanks for releasing v8.1.0 in Dec 2024.

There have been a few new fixes since then, esp #694 and #698 which allows us to use this on newer Debian versions.

Can we request that a new version be released please? This will allow users to keep this up to date. Seems a pity to hold back releasing new version when the code has already been merged.
