I know that OpenGL is supported and I have tried using modernGL successfully but I see that Vulkan is not supported and considering that Vulkan is going to be more relevant over the years, it would be good to have this option.

Sure, someone could work on Vulkan support but I don't think it's priority at all. I'm skeptical people will actually use it, and it seems like it would take substantial contributor effort. It's quite strange actually that I'm unaware any of feature requests for vulkan support ever, and then you and the author of #3392 mention it on the exact same day.

I'm not sure it actually will be more relevant over the years, to individual devs. SDL3 has its own 3D API (on top of various native layers like Vulkan), there's WebGPU now competing, Apple refuses to support it...
