document-level `renderings` option

It would be nice to be able to specify renderings once at document level, when all the cells are going to have e.g. renderings: [light, dark]

I attempted this in 1.7 in #12485, but didn't completely think it out.

It can't be done in just Lua, because the setting needs to be available to the engine (for echo coalescing in knitr) and user code.

Let's discuss and try again in 1.8

Is _quarto.yml and _metadata.yml use included?

Metadata maybe, project no? I’m not sure but this is one of the things that should be thought out, for sure!

FYI about engine at project level which is now not supported but might at some point, thus me raising this here.

• engine: should be respected globally at the _quarto.yml level #3157
