There are no instructions anywhere that I can find, for installing the version on github.

I think this is what is needed:

Chrome menu -> Settings -> Extensions
Uninstall any existing versions of Reddit companion.
Enable Developer mode.
Load packed extension.
Choose the src directory of the downloaded git repository or tarball.
