[BUG] Black Screen on HEVC Encode + Software Decoding [--avsw] with RX6700 #61
Comments
I've tested using RX5500XT and RX460 with 22.8.2, 22.7.1, 22.6.1 driver using --avsw, but cannot find problem there. It might be RX6xxx series specific issue, it'll be difficult, as I don't have RX6xxx series myself. Looks like the driver is unstable? |
Hi, |
If it’s RX6xxx(RDNA2) series specific problem, although it’s weird that VCEEncC runs into black screen, I’ll need to wait till the HEVC encoding to get stable, as I can’t test with RX6xxx series right now. I’m planning to get Zen4 in the future which is told to have RDNA2 iGPU, I might be able to test at that time. |
Hello, I think i have to get myself an nvidia GPU as backup and sell the rx6700XT [Interested?], AMD is meh, i had 5950x CPU and moved to 12900K, so much better, no issues. regards |
Hello,
while encoding HEVC files if i use Software Decoding [--avsw] option instead of Hardware [ --avhw] I get 50% FPS boost in video encoding.
But i get lots of Black Screen crashes mid encoding, driver time out errors, sometimes the PC can recover and AMD Adrenalin generates bug report, otherwise i get "no image" slide on my TV [using OLED as PC monitor] and i have to Hard Reset the PC.
I tried going back from Normal drivers from 22.8.1 back to WHQL 22.5.1, it actually BOOSTED my Encoding [With --avsw ] from 300FPS to 350FPS for FHD videos, but i still got the black screen and driver timeout.
Sometime i can encode 5-10 files no issues and other time it will freeze on same file 2-3 times with recovery, ill re-start encoding and it will freeze again.
I use FastFlix to encode.
Now i came back to Hardware Decoder and so far no black screen/ driver time outs but much MUCH slower performance.
