User story

As a member of the Sample Prep and Long Read teams, I would like to be able to create a Stock Plate and/or a Stock RNA Plate from a list of tube barcodes, to record the transfer and to be a replacement for the Samples Extraction LIMS.

Who are the primary contacts for this story

Katy, Steve - PSD
Eleanor, Ada - Sample Prep
Danni, Francesco - Long Read

Who is the nominated tester for UAT

Ada (Sample Prep), Francesco (Long Read)

Acceptance criteria

Consider if these features can be featured flagged to decouple testing and deployment.
To be considered successful the solution must allow:

  • New link in the 'Sample Management > Lab View' area of Sequencescape, 'Create stock plates from tubes', leading to...
  • New page, similar to the 'Plates > New' page ('Print plate barcodes' link), which allows the user to scan a list of source tube barcodes, and create:
    • Stock Plate only
    • Stock RNA Plate only
    • both of the above
  • The samples in the tubes are added to the new plate(s) in column order (first in the list is in A1, second in B1, third in C1, etc.)
  • As with the 'Plates > New' page, barcodes can be printed for the destination plates.
  • Q. the 'Plates > New' page requires the user barcode to be scanned - is this necessary, as the user must be logged in anyway? To consider / discuss with the users.

Additional context

Mockups - this story is for implementing Option 1 - https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Ulkuv1m47wV_WvtYgVTRlmKX2IhVOfZtfIeAJ3ruY8o/edit?usp=sharing

It doesn't have to look identical to that. The mockups have not been shown to the users, so it is probably worth doing that for some early feedback. We did discuss the general idea of using a page like this, in this area of the application, with Ada.

This came out of the work on sunsetting Samples Extraction. See research stories and comments here:

The destination stock plates are actually FluidX tube racks, in real life. However, the current process (using Samples Extraction) represents them as stock plates in Sequencescape, so it makes sense to continue doing that here, in the interests of changing one thing at a time.
