Commands can be sent via serial (115200 baud) or MQTT. The device
publishes status updates to tout/[MAC_ADDRESS]/[STATUS_TYPE] topics.

How do I compile the code?

Yes, I can compile new code for the ESP32 and get it connecting to MQTT etc ✅, but that's not even half the battle :D
(I haven't successfully managed to compile the SAMD21 code though)

The user @tdolik had started fleshing out the server-side stuff at https://github.com/tdolik/open-firmware/tree/docker-server

but there's still a few missing pieces of the jigsaw -

• The Scribit calibration code which is running on some AWS lambda
• Any example GCODE from images

Update: Able to compile everything, have figured out most things 🎉

I'm currently able to operate multiple scribits, generate GCODE from SVG files and get scribits to draw them (currently limited to a 2x2m mount setup with a single pen)

@wenoptics sure thing:

• Install the Arduino Legacy IDE (1.8.19).

  • Add board URLS to Arduino IDE in File > Preferences > Additional Boards Manager URLs:

    https://www.briki.org/download/resources/package_briki_index.json
    https://dl.espressif.com/dl/package_esp32_dev_index.json
    

  • Goto Tools > Board > Board Manager and install the Briki MBC-WB board.
  • Select the Briki MBC-WB board in Arduino IDE, v2.0.0 (2.1.7 doesn't compile SAMD board -- i think this is what you might be coming up against)

• Add additional hardware overrides:

  • Copy the ExtraFiles/8MB_ffat & spiffs.csv files into Arduino15/packages/briki/hardware/mbc-wb/2.0.0/tools/partitions, overwiting the existing files.
  • Copy ExtraFiles/SERCOM.cpp into Arduino15/packages/briki/hardware/mbc-wb/2.0.0/cores/samd21, overwriting the existing file.

• Copy ExtraFiles/arduino-mqtt and StepperDriver into Firmware/ScribitESP

@kris-sum, I was getting missing "binary.h" when compiling the MK4duo.

MK4duo.h:45:10: fatal error: binary.h: No such file or directory

Thanks for mentioning to use Arduino Legacy IDE, however, I still getting the same missing file error on Arduino IDE v1.18.9. - I am able to install the Briki MBC-WB board definition, and compile with MBC-WB, SAMD21 selected. Was this something you have encountered?

@mdiedrichmece I used an XML parser to identify line, polyline, square and path elements, then used basic trigonometry to convert the x/y coordinates into the pully string lengths for a 2m (1m drawing area) setup.
So each svg element gets translated to corresponding GCODE movements and pen operations.

Thanks @kris-sum I appreciate the help. I got the firmware compiled in uploaded yesterday and believe its setup and working. Need to work on the MQTT server now to actually test.
