Medical code translation

I am wondering how to efficiently and accurately translate medical codes, such as 'LOINC/8310-5' and 'SNOMED/271649006,' into human-readable descriptions.

You can download ontologies from https://athena.ohdsi.org/ . This provides mappings from medical codes to their preferred string form.

By the way, I did not find following medical codes in the provided link:

'Visit','STANFORD_VISIT','MEDS_BIRTH','Domain','MEDS_DEATH'

I think I understand the meaning of 'MEDS_BIRTH' and 'MEDS_DEATH'. But I am not sure about the meaning of 'Visit','STANFORD_VISIT', and 'Domain'.

I have checked some of 'Visit' and 'STANFORD_VISIT'. I think they may present the way to provide the ehr record (phone or in clinic)?

Would you mind to explain them more? Thanks!

The medical codes are mapped from raw Clarity data to OMOP CDM

The Domain (defined here) is standard concept in OMOP CDM v5.4

There are a total of 30 Domains in OMOP CDM.

And Visit is one of the Domains Table 4.1 , e.g. some Domain examples:

Domain	Standard Vocabularies
Condition	SNOMED CT, ICD-O-3
Procedure	SNOMED CT, CPT-4, HCPCS, ICD-10-PCS, ICD-9-Proc, OPCS-4
Measurement	SNOMED CT, LOINC
Drug	RxNorm, RxNorm Extension, CVX
Device	SNOMED CT
Observation	SNOMED CT
Visit	CMS Place of Service, ABMT, NUCC

Finally STANFORD_VISIT is a custom STARR OMOP concept that's unique to Stanford when the data is ETL'd using our in-house tooling from Research IT.
