Privacy Policy

FodScan — Last updated: May 2026

FodScan is a personal dietary reference tool for people following a low-FODMAP diet. This policy explains how the app handles your data.

Data We Collect

FodScan does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data.

All data you create in the app — scan history, unknown ingredients, accuracy reports, and ruleset overrides — is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it using the "Export as JSON" feature in Settings.

Camera

FodScan uses your device camera to:

  • Photograph ingredient labels for text recognition, processed entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework
  • Scan product barcodes

Camera images are never stored or transmitted.

Barcode Lookups

When you scan a product barcode, FodScan sends the barcode number to Open Food Facts to retrieve product information. No personal information is included in this request. Open Food Facts is an open, non-profit food database licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL).

Apple Intelligence

On supported devices running iOS 26 or later, FodScan can use Apple Intelligence to analyze your local research data and suggest FODMAP ingredient additions. This processing happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device language model. No data is sent to Apple or any third party as part of this feature.

Analytics and Tracking

FodScan contains no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind.

Children's Privacy

FodScan does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13.

Medical Disclaimer

FodScan is a dietary reference tool and does not provide medical advice. The FODMAP status of ingredients is based on Monash University research and is provided for informational purposes only. Consult a registered dietitian or qualified healthcare provider before making changes to your diet, particularly if you have a medical condition.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "last updated" date.
