“Unable to send message” - WHY?

Steps to reproduce

When I compose a message it ends in Outbox. When I tell K9 to send the message, K9 notifies “Unable to send message”.

Expected behavior

K9 should be more precise about the problem:

• the server cannot be reached (is offline) - TCP problem
• server does not accept credentials
• server temporary rejects SMTP verbs (which verb?)

Actual behavior

The message “Unable to send message” appears as notification, without details.

I cannot say if this is the same as #9230, as the current case is not about Reply and #9230 is about reply. Moreover I do not know, if the message was sent.

Also getting this. There may be a valid reason why a message cannot be sent, but the "Failed to send some messages / Unable to send message" error is not actionable - the user merely knows that there is a problem, not what the problem is, and therefore cannot resolve it.

I am also getting this error since I did send a mail 1-2 weeks ago. The thing is, the mail did get send. And I'm always having this error message in my notifications now, if I swipe it away, it comes back a few minutes later.

Should I open a new issue for this?

No, you shouldn't. It's the same problem. My workaround is to move the email from Outbox to Drafts and then to Sent. Its really annoying, but it does the job. I hope they bring attention to this problem.
