Applications have severe tearing or drop signal entirely when running full screen #2285
Comments
My two cents here. Same behavior after latest update in to ASUS ROG Ally. |
I am experiencing similar problem with an unreadable left side menu in Steam gaming mode on the NVIDIA beta image. Additionally, there is no signal when the monitor is powered off and back on. There is also an issue with sleep mode not getting a signal when the PC is turned back on; sleep mode behaves like hibernation, where the PC is powered off. I have turned off sleep mode and other power management features and stopped turning off my monitor as it caused the no signal problem with the DisplayPort connection. I have the same type 3D card, an Aorus Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Lite Hash Rate hardware, but I an older Intel i7 processor and DDR3 memory. The no signal problem affects my Gigabyte M28U monitor. I normally use 3840x2160 at 60Hz and 144Hz in games, but I also do 120Hz in Windows. Wayland is a bit different; I think some of the issues are due to Wayland handles the drivers, as X11 didn't have those problems before. Wayland is needed for the Android emulator they support, but it runs in software mode with NVIDIA from what I recall. https://universal-blue.discourse.group/t/aorus-geforce-rtx-3070-master-8g-nvidia-settings/6767 Have you tried reinstalling or switching X11 to see if Steam Big Picture mode has the glitches I removed Linux from my PC for now because the "no signal" problem with my monitor really annoyed me. I was trying to use it with dual-booting Windows, but having to hard power the PC and restart it can mess up the Windows partitions if they were mounted under the session. Anyway, I would like to know if the problem ever gets fixed. I also plan to download the Bazzite NVIDIA open images, as I don't think they are affected by the same sort of graphic bug. I plan to add Linux back later on if theno signal" bug is ever fixed. I think it is either related to Way or drivers, or both of them are the cause. I don't11 had this problem with NVIDIA, but I am just guessing what the problem is. I used both bazzite gnome and kde based ones, if that helps, I think the no display was in the kde plasma session last, I don't know for sure if gnome had the same problem or not. I normally use 60hz when on the desktop, not 120hz or 144hz, since I am not sure how much power it using when on the higher modes, to keep the energy bills down for my parents, yes, I cannot tell the difference when I am on a desktop, I only sort of can tell there is a difference in video games for the monitor 4k with hdr support I have, also turning on hdr in steam or desktop mode in linux doesn't seem to affect it for me, I didn't try hdr in games, and I am not sure if the hdr feature really works on my monitor, even thought it says its supported. I was last using the kde plasma version of desktop without the steam gaming mode, when I got that no signal problem, last. |
Describe the bug
I've been running Bazzite for a while now without any major issues, but hadn't updated and rebooted in a few weeks. After pulling the latest update, I now have an issue where it seems like when any application attempts to run in exclusive full-screen mode, I experience very severe tearing and corruption that makes it unusable; sometimes my TV instead fails to detect a signal entirely and just shows a blank screen. I've seen this happen in Steam when running in Big Picture mode, and also in a handful of games if I run them full screen.
Applications don't seem to have a problem when running windowed, and interestingly, the problem also immediately disappears if I do something like hit alt-tab or the meta key to make desktop widgets appear on top of the application. See attached photos of my TV for examples.
I've gone back through previous releases and found that
41.20250127
seems to be the last stable release that does not have this issue. If I update to41.20250131
, I experience it immediately, and every release since then has the same issue. Just for reference, my display normally runs at 3840x2160 at 120 Hz, but I've also tried changing to a handful of different resolutions and refresh rates, and none of them made any difference. What did you expect to happen?
I expect applications to run full screen without any issues.
Output of
rpm-ostree status
Hardware
Also note that my system is connected via HDMI to a Denon AVR-S970H receiver, which is in turn connected to a Samsung Q80T TV.
