Fixes Applied to Resolve Layers UI Issue

Problem

The main app at http://localhost:8000/ was not showing the layers UI, likely due to JavaScript initialization errors caused by ISF library loading issues.

Root Cause

The app.js was trying to initialize ISF-related functionality synchronously, and when the ISF library failed to load, the entire app initialization failed, preventing the layers UI from appearing.

Solution Applied

1. Non-blocking ISF Initialization

  • Separated main app initialization from ISF initialization
  • Made ISF loading asynchronous and non-blocking
  • App now initializes core functionality first, then attempts ISF loading separately

2. Restructured Initialization Flow

// Old: Everything in one synchronous block
document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", () => {
  // ISF initialization (blocking)
  // Layer creation (blocked if ISF fails)
});

// New: Separated initialization
document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", () => {
  initializeMainApp();          // Core functionality first
  setTimeout(initializeISF, 100); // ISF separately, non-blocking
});

3. Modular Functions Created

  • initializeMainApp() - Sets up core app without dependencies
  • initializeAudioControls() - Audio file/mic input setup
  • initializeLayers() - Creates layer UI elements
  • setupLayerEventListeners() - Handles layer interactions
  • startAnimationLoop() - Main rendering loop

4. Fallback Mechanisms

  • Multiple CDN sources for ISF library loading
  • Custom fallback ISF renderer implementation
  • Enhanced error handling and logging

5. Code Cleanup

  • Removed duplicate initialization code
  • Fixed event listener management
  • Proper function scoping and organization

Expected Result

  • ✅ Main app loads and shows layers UI immediately
  • ✅ ISF functionality loads independently in background
  • ✅ If ISF fails to load, fallback renderer is used
  • ✅ Core functionality (layers, audio, MilkDrop) works regardless of ISF status

Test Steps

  1. Visit http://localhost:8000/ - Should show layers UI immediately
  2. Check browser console - Should see "Main app initialized successfully"
  3. Try ISF shaders - Should work with either real or fallback renderer
  4. Test other features - Audio, MilkDrop presets should work normally

Files Modified

  • index.html - Enhanced ISF library loading
  • app.js - Restructured initialization flow
  • isf-improved.js - Better library compatibility
  • isf-fallback.js - Custom fallback implementation (new)

The main layers UI should now appear immediately when loading the app, regardless of ISF library loading status.
