Release Notes

This is a release candidate of the next release version, and is intended for testing purposes. Please be careful when using this version on live writing projects, and make sure you take frequent backups.

Bugfixes

• Fixed a bug that would block the return key in the editor if French style space padding was enabled in Preferences. Issue [2.8beta1] can't insert carriage return in the middle of the text (when fmtpadbefore is set) #2586. PR Fix inserting line break when auto-padding is enabled #2587.
• Fixed an issue where dialog state was no longer saved properly when they were closed for many dialogs. This may be due to a change in the Qt framework, or a bug from a previous release. PR Fix dialog closing not keeping settings #2585.
• Fixed an issue where a confusing error would show up if the user cancelled the file dialog during example project creation. A new dialog now tells you what the actual issue was and sends you back to the welcome dialog. Issue Can't open the Sample Project from list of recently opened projects #2590. PR Improve example project creation #2592.

Features

• Vim mode has been added to the editor, and can now be enabled in Preferences. Contributed by @idealemu. Issue Add Vim mode #2493. PRs Vim mode #2499 and Refactor Vim mode #2588.

Improvements

• Using format button from the editor toolbar will not apply the formatting on lines that cannot take formatting, like headings and meta data lines. Issue Format buttons should block formatting on headings/meta #2560. PR Block formatting on meta data and headings #2575.
• Added an option in Preferences that will try to centre the main app windows during startup. This effect is always triggered if the main window is scaled down at startup due to being opened on a smaller screen. Issue Adjust app position on startup #2579. PRs Centre windows at startup #2580 and Fix centre on screen/app issues #2581.
• The example project has been updated and improved. Issue Improve example project usage #2570. PRs Improve sample project creation and usage #2572 and Reduce samples #2574.
• The spacing between icon and text in push buttons has been increased. PR Increase spacing on push buttons #2582.
• The font selection dialog now remembers its previous size, and uses the new standard push buttons instead of the Qt defaults. PR Customise the font select dialog #2584.
• It is now possible to override the manuscript language meta value for document formats that have this. The IETF BCP 47 language tag is used. Issue Allow any Project Language (including Ukrainian) #2328. PR Allow overriding language for manuscripts #2593.

Internationalisation

• Updated US English, Italian, Norwegian, and Japanese translations. PR Release 2.8 RC 1 #2589.
