Hey guys whenever I build the final manuscript, all paragraphs are completely ignored. In the editor, the text is clearly separated into paragraphs, but the exported document merges everything into a single block. In the settings, the only related option I can find is “Text Paragraph,” but changing it isn't very useful because once the document is built, I can’t copy the paragraph spacing from the preview, which makes it even more confusing.

It seems to me you still have paragraphs, but with spacing set to 0 there is no space between them. I'm not sure I understand what you expect to see in the manuscript document here. |

After re-reading the question a few times trying to understand what you mean, I think you may be mixing how paragraphs are formatted in plain text formats and rich text formats. In a plain text editor, like on the right in your screenshot, all you have is lines, so in order to distinguish a line break from a paragraph break, you need an empty line in between. However, in a rich text format, a line break and a paragraph break are two different things, so there is no need for an empty line in between paragraphs. Instead, the difference is visualised by adding spacing for paragraph breaks, while a plain line break adds no spacing. This is how rich text formats handle it. It's how word processors like Word and LibreOffice Writer work, and how HTML is formatted. novelWriter follows this when generating rich text manuscript documents. If you set the paragraph spacing to 0, you can't see the difference, but that doesn't mean those are not paragraphs. If you export the manuscript as a plain text format, it will add blank lines between paragraphs like it does in the editor, but only for plain text formats. |

Yeah, I figured that's what you meant. Blank lines are actually blank paragraphs when you do it in Word/LibreOffice, but novelWriter doesn't do that. I'm curious why you want those blank paragraphs though. Why isn't extra spacing enough? |

As for including the character, what format did you select? If you select the novelWriter format, it will just glue together the files from the editor without touching them. You may want to select markdown format instead. There used to be a pure plain text format too, but it was removed when that part of novelWriter was redesigned. I can add it back in if anyone wants it. |
