  2. Wait for 30 seconds or so for cards to load in
  3. Try to play video
  4. Wait for 30-60 seconds for video to start playing
  5. 5 seconds after video starts, video buffers and stops again for 30-60 seconds

Additional information

Similar to my previous bug report #4307. I thought that the DNS might have been the issue but I've factory reset my Shield Pro, I've restored my router DNS settings to get automatically from my ISP and am still having this issue only on my Shield. My 4k Onn. Pro does not have this issue on the same network

@duringleaves did you say you had this issue as well then changed DNS and it fixed it? I'm not seeing any improvement regardless of what DNS servers I use on router or device

@rjwinks yes. Suddenly, SmartTube was taking a very long time to show thumbnails of any videos, to start playback of any videos, and would buffer every 5 seconds of playback.

What finally resolved it for me was to change the DNS server settings on my router to use Google's specifically. Typically, I have set this per-device as needed, but this wasn't an option on my Shield.

Since making that change, it has all worked flawlessly.

well I'm still stumped. I changed my DNS to point to my pi-hole with unbound and now we're back to working flawlessly again

I'm sorry to keep re-opening, but I guess I'm not out of the woods yet. I had a few days of working fine, another smart tube update and now it's broken again. Same behavior as reported above. No additional DNS changes or network changes. Smarttube working fine on other devices on the same network (Onn. 4K Pro)

Same happening for me on Mi Box S 4K gen 1, most videos work fine but a few random ones load forever only to play a few seconds. Even after restarting the application, the exact same videos still freeze. It seems to be independent of channel, video quality and settings. Manually setting DNS server address didn't fix that.

I'm testing the possible fix right now. Is anyone willing to test? Installed over the existing beta.

I've actually stayed on 25.87 and it's been working fine without hitting this issue. Not sure if that's relevant?

@rjwinks watch for the bug. If it occurs again try the build above.
