Lots of folks are dealing with forgotten/misplaced passwords, and it's disappointing that I can't help them. The trusted user feature (#53) will be very difficult, it will require a lot of UI work and probably not be practical for most users anyway.
I think I can instead take a page from Signal's book. Let users (optionally) use their telephone number as their identifier, and then perform authentication with SMS codes. It's not what the most privacy conscious folks would choose, but it's a reasonable trade-off for users who are concerned about forgetting their passwords.
