z/OS Open Tools Digest - June 12, 2024
Hey everyone, welcome to another edition of the z/OS Open Tools Digest.

Newly Ported Tools to z/OS

• GNU Stow: Stow is a symlink farm manager program which takes distinct sets of software and/or data located in separate directories on the filesystem, and makes them all appear to be installed in a single directory tree. For more info visit.
• Boost: Boost provides C++ source libraries that are usable across a broad spectrum of applications. Currently, Chrono, Atomic, thread, container, prg_exec_monitor, and unit_test_framework are available. For more info plese visit.

Zopen Package Manager Updates

Please use zopen upgrade meta to upgrade to the latest meta

• zopen audit(beta) - Introduced a new command zopen audit which checks for existing vulnerabilities against your installed packages. This leverages the open source osv.dev APIs. Thank you to @KeplerBoyce !
• zopen-config - Introduced a new command zopen config to set and display your zopen configuration settings. Thank you to @DevonianTeuchter . The zopen-config script can now generate key value pairs: zopen-config can now emit environment variables as key/value pairs. Useful it you want to save the environment variables set by zopen into a file. Thank you to @DevonianTeuchter.

Core Tool Updates

Please use zopen upgrade to upgrade to the latest tools

• Find and grep (fixed too many open file descriptors)
• unzip/zip (Fixed - aggressive tagging, retaining of mtime/atime issues, retaining file tags)
• sudo (fixed several issues)
