E-commerce Recommendation System (Java Swing)

Overview

This project is a desktop-based E-commerce application developed using Java Swing. It includes a product browsing system, cart functionality, and a recommendation engine implemented using graph-based data structures.

Tech Stack

Project Structure

  • src/ → Java source files
  • database/ → SQL file for database setup
  • config.properties → Database configuration (if used)

Setup Instructions

1. Prerequisites

  • Install Java JDK (8 or above)
  • Install MySQL
  • Install phpMyAdmin (optional but recommended)

2. Database Setup

  1. Open phpMyAdmin

  2. Create a new database:

    e_recommendation_system
    
  3. Click Import

  4. Upload:

    database/e-recommendation_system.sql
    

3. Configure Database Connection

Update your database credentials in the code or in config.properties:

Example:

db.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/e_recommendation_system
db.user=root
db.password=yourpassword

4. Compile and Run

From terminal:

javac -d bin src/*.java
java -cp bin Main

(Replace Main with your actual main class name)


Recommendation System Logic

  • Products are treated as nodes in a graph
  • Edges represent similarity between products
  • Recommendations are generated based on traversal of related nodes

Notes

  • Ensure MySQL server is running before executing the project
  • Update credentials if database connection fails

Future Improvements

  • Convert to web-based system (MERN / Spring Boot)
  • Add real-time recommendation updates
  • Improve UI/UX design
  • Add authentication security
