We do not. The original call asks for 2 data analysts/scientists, but obviously more people were involved.

# The Challenge
A year later, in 2021, another large food shortage was expected, this time in Suriname. Assistance had been requested, including from the IMF, but was expcted to only come through in six months or more. Help was needed sooner than that.

It was of crucial importance to convince emergency aid institutions in the Netherlands and EU of the severity and urgency of the issue, and ask for their support in providing (the finances for) emergency food aid. In order to make a strong case, SLC would conduct interviews with people from key organizations in Suriname over the next few weeks, such as farming cooperatives, parliamentarians, the Emergency Committee at the ministry of Agriculture, UN representatives in Suriname, and NGO fieldworkers.

We can remove the brackets (the finances for).

However, in addition to qualitative reporting, SLC needed data to back up their claims. For this purpose, SLC reached out to CorrelAid.

# The Solution
In order to support SLC's call for help, our volunteers needed to find, analyze and visualize data on food security in Suriname -- as fast as possible. In 10 weeks, the volunteers gathered and combined data on food production, imports and exports, poverty, smallholder/subsitence farming, access to food (roads/transport) and other factors that could contribute to food insecurity.

access to food and transport*

# The Impact
This led to several findings on (contributing factors to) food insecurity in Suriname, as well as estimations on the required food support needs, all backed by data. These conclusions were summarized in the Hunger Risk Mapping Report.

I would argue to not add the team, for two reasons:

  • We don't have this information on all projects, making it hard to remain consistent over all the project pages
  • The intended audience of the project page will not be particularly interested in the details of the team makeup. The number of volunteers is clear from the list of names, their exact titles and roles are relatively irrelevant, as we mention what the project entails.

I feel like there's maybe even more information that we can cut from this section. This information was in the original call for volunteers, because it's relevant when explaining the specific project to new people, but it's a little bit too much detail and not specifically relevant for people who just want to get a sense of what kinds of projects CorrelAid does.

Faruk has used satellite imagery using a GIS model for his analysis and has even made a predictive analysis for future deforestation. The aim of this project was to use this data to influence an ongoing governmental draft on deforestation regulation strategy as well as empower Civil Society Organisations, NGOs, and activists to increase pressure on the government to act.
One of SLK’s significant challenges has been addressing deforestation in Kosovo. With the assistance of local GIS expert Faruk Foniqi, SLK identified the rate of deforestation, including illegal activities, using satellite imagery and GIS analysis. This data aimed to influence governmental draft regulations on deforestation and empower Civil Society Organisations, NGOs, and activists to pressure the government for action.

In SCL, I created separate headers for The Partner Organisation and The Challenge. I think that would fit here very well as well.

In addition, I would change "One of SLK's significant challenges" to "One of SLK's focuses has been addressing deforestation in Kosovo.". The word "challenge" should be reserved for the challenge that CorrelAid addresses.

Or "An important topic for SLK has been deforestation in Kosovo" / "An important problem SLK has been addressing is" etc.

There is a now a new blogpost with more details. Find out more about this project [here]({% post_url 2023-06-22-sustainability-leadership-kosova %})
Despite having the story and the initial data, SLK faced a challenge in effectively presenting this information to raise awareness. This highlights the ongoing need for innovative communication strategies to effectively mobilize support and drive impactful environmental action.

The last sentence reads very chatGPT-y.

Despite having the story and the initial data, SLK faced a challenge in effectively presenting this information to raise awareness. This highlights the ongoing need for innovative communication strategies to effectively mobilize support and drive impactful environmental action.

# The Solution
With the guidance and insights from the team of SLK, the expertise in storytelling of Ashraf Ramzy from MasterStory, and the dedication of CorrelAid volunteers, the combined efforts were focused on transforming the narrative around deforestation in Kosovo. Our volunteers combined data analysis with innovative data visualization techniques to create a compelling and persuasive story. This comprehensive approach turned raw data into meaningful insights, designed to captivate audiences and apply strategic pressure on the government’s deforestation plans. Through this collaboration, SLK, CorrelAidNL, and MasterStory volunteers worked together to breathe life into the data, making it relevant and impactful.

What about the approach was "comprehensive"? Can you be more specific on who the audience was that was "captivated"? Were the data visualization techniques truly innovative, or were they just data visualization techniques?

# The Impact
The impact was significant: the campaign successfully raised public awareness and compelled governmental action to address deforestation in Kosovo. By presenting data in an accessible and visually engaging manner, our volunteers enabled a broader audience to understand the urgency of the deforestation crisis and inspired them to take action. The #MoseMerrMalin campaign, born from this collaboration, mobilized citizens, businesses, and the government to protect and restore Kosovo's forests. This initiative aims to grow the economy, secure jobs, ensure clean air, and foster a thriving natural environment, encouraging collective responsibility and decisive action.

It raised public awareness, but do we have any information on the result of this campaign? Did anything change?
