MaCFP-4 Condensed Phase Subgroup
The fourth Measurement and Computation of Fire Phenomena Workshop (MaCFP-4) is scheduled to take place prior to the 15th IAFSS Symposium, which will be held June 8-12, 2026 in La Rochelle, France.
Schedule
MaCFP-4 Pyrolysis Model Calibration Exercise
Experimental
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026 (11:00am EST), the MaCFP Condensed Phase subgroup organized a virtual meeting to share a preliminary analysis of experimental results submitted to the workshop and to share next steps for this exercise. A .pdf copy of the presentation slides shared at this virtual meeting (including questions from meeting participants and organizer responses) is available: Preliminary_Summary_Exp_Results_Presentation.pdf
A Preliminary summary of experimental measurements submitted to the 2026 MaCFP Condensed Phase Workshop is now available. This report has been prepared for subject matter experts to provide critical review, for experimentalists to identify and correct minor errors in their submitted datasets (e.g., scaling or units issues; or mislabelling and/or accidental submission of incorrect data), and to provide modelers who wish to use these measurements for pyrolysis model development a suitable overview of the information available on the MaCFP Github Repository.
Note: The current .pdf copy of this report was last compiled on March 30, 2026. As more data is added to this repository, it can be plotted by compiling a new copy of the .tex document. A second version of this document will be revised (edits to the main text and additional analysis) in Summer, 2026 to include final results submitted to the MaCFP-4 Workshop.
Modeling
Modelers who wish to participate in the MaCFP-4 Workshop are asked to calibrate models (i.e., develop material property sets) that can accurately capture the decomposition behavior of these experimental measurements. Specifically, modelers are asked to provide: (1) material property sets, (2) written and numerical descriptions of how these parameters were calibrated, (3) and numerical predictions of material thermal decomposition behavior in idealized 0D and 1D-heating scenarios (these numerical predictions are used solely for model-to-model comparison, not model validation). Further information on how to setup, format, and submit these modeling results are provided in the Guidelines for Participation Document.
