Welcome to the Maker's Asylum Citizen Science wiki!
NOTE: Each sub-project has its own wiki. Links to those wikis are placed below
Who We Are
Maker’s Asylum is a community makerspace that works at the intersection of education & open innovation. We are a team of makers, engineers, researchers and designers that thrive on learning, teaching and building. We love to make things and believe that great things happen when we build together as a community. We are deeply committed to building communities that share our vision of sharing knowledge and solving problems. When the global pandemic threw the world in turmoil, we pivoted, adapted, and embraced every opportunity, and catalyzed solutions that created a positive impact on the society at large.
Our Projects
And thus was born our #M19 initiative – a program that emerged to address the challenges facing our world and build solutions using the combined hive intelligence from within and outside of our community. Our problem solving approach combined a centralized, open-source design philosophy with a decentralized manufacturing capability. During the last few years, we have successfully executed several impactful projects under the M19 initiative. Some notable examples are:
- M19 Alternative Power Sources Research
- M19 Repair Cafes
- M19O2 Open Source Oxygen Concentrator
- M19 Rebreather
- M19 MAPR
- M19 Baby and Junior Shields
- M19 Face Shields
Open R&D Initiative
Building on the immense experience we gained with these projects, we are now focusing our energy to address specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) employing a unique open-source, citizen-science-based, research & development (R&D) methodology. This approach adopts scientific methods of R&D but with the participation of the community. We build on the successes of a few such open R&D projects from around the world. One notable example being the Fukushima radiation mapping project.
