Welcome aboard to the NixOS Marketing Team! We're thrilled to have you join us in promoting and advocating for NixOS. This README serves as a guide to help you get started and understand your role within the marketing team.
As a member of the NixOS Marketing Team, our primary objectives include:
- Increasing awareness of Nix among developers, sysadmins, and the broader tech community.
- Communicating the unique features and advantages of Nix over traditional Linux distributions.
- Advertise events conventions and community events centered around Nix.
- Growing the Nix user base and fostering a vibrant community around the platform.
- Supporting the adoption of Nix in industry and open-source projects.

Team members in these roles are not responsible for doing all the work themselves; they are responsible for ensuring the work is completed effectively. Members taking on these roles should feel empowered to make decisions and coordinate resources as needed.
- Define the team’s objectives and ensure alignment with the overall mission of NixOS.
- Guide and motivate the team to meet these objectives.
- Ensure team members have the resources, support, and information necessary to succeed.
- Serve as the primary point of coordination with other teams, the Steering Committee (SC), and the NixOS Foundation Board.
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the NixOS homepage.
- Select and manage the build tools used for the website.
- Establish the overall design and visual identity of the website.
- Develop and maintain a clear contribution guide for website contributors.
- Implement and maintain continuous integration (CI) and pipeline tooling for the website.
- Manage the organization’s social media presence and external communications.
- Create and schedule social media posts to promote events, updates, and community initiatives.
- Manage accounts on platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Mastodon, and LinkedIn (future consideration for platforms like Bluesky).
- Oversee the creation and distribution of the NixOS blog and newsletter content.
- Organize and manage the yearly community survey and other periodic surveys.
- Process survey results and share findings with the community via Discourse posts.
- Collect, analyze, and maintain key metrics to evaluate the impact of marketing initiatives and community engagement.
