Opportunity: Intern, SIMPLE Database Data Ingestion

We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented students or post-Bacs with a keen interest in data to join our team and work on SIMPLE database data ingestion. The ideal candidate will have programming experience, a basic understanding of data management, and a passion for solving complex problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Ingest astronomical data from various sources into the SIMPLE database
  • Assist in cleaning and transforming data to ensure it is consistent and accurate
  • Support the development and maintenance of data ingestion pipelines
  • Monitor data ingestion processes and learn to troubleshoot any issues
  • Collaborate with the SIMPLE team to improve data ingestion workflows
  • Use GitHub to collaborate through pull requests

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing computer science, data science, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of data management principles and practices
  • Experience with git and Github
  • Familiarity with data ingestion tools and technologies is a plus
  • Exposure to SQL and Python is beneficial
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Enthusiasm for learning and working with data
  • Interest in Astronomy

Location: In person at the American Museum of Natural History at least two days a week. Remote otherwise.

Commitment: Applicants should be able to commit at least 20 hours/week during June and July.

Stipend: Negotiable based on experience and need.
