Opportunity: Intern, SIMPLE Database Data Ingestion
We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented students or post-Bacs with a keen interest in data to join our team and work on SIMPLE database data ingestion. The ideal candidate will have programming experience, a basic understanding of data management, and a passion for solving complex problems.
Responsibilities:
- Ingest astronomical data from various sources into the SIMPLE database
- Assist in cleaning and transforming data to ensure it is consistent and accurate
- Support the development and maintenance of data ingestion pipelines
- Monitor data ingestion processes and learn to troubleshoot any issues
- Collaborate with the SIMPLE team to improve data ingestion workflows
- Use GitHub to collaborate through pull requests
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing computer science, data science, or a related field
- Basic understanding of data management principles and practices
- Experience with git and Github
- Familiarity with data ingestion tools and technologies is a plus
- Exposure to SQL and Python is beneficial
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Enthusiasm for learning and working with data
- Interest in Astronomy
Location: In person at the American Museum of Natural History at least two days a week. Remote otherwise.
Commitment: Applicants should be able to commit at least 20 hours/week during June and July.
Stipend: Negotiable based on experience and need.
