You will need the vbo
and wav
directories to run the game, they are included in the release build here.
For the highest quality graphics you will need to download HyperboreaV2.7z.001 and HyperboreaV2.7z.002 however if you have an older GPU and cannot render the highest quality graphics you can download either HyperboreaV2_MediumGFX.7z or HyperboreaV2_LowGFX.7z.
It's meant to be a modern taken on the game
Wolfenstein 3D by ID Software (1992).
So I thought... What is a modern take on the name
"Wolfenstein"? and I figured that it was "Hyperborea".
The reason for this is that the greek mythology of
Hyperborea is a noticable part of internet culture
although sadly it has been highjacked by alt-right
agendas to some degree - I hope that by making a game
called Hyperborea that doesn't feed onto the perverted
misrepresentation of the original greek mythology helps
to aid decoupling it somewhat from lesser desirable
ideological views.
There are no black suns in this game, although
there are Swastikas in Wolfenstein.
Wolfenstein has a much clearer context that you
are fighting against the enemy Nazi's as where
in this game there is no context at all. In this
respect Wolfenstein sports Swastikas in a contexually
acceptable manner, as the insignia of the enemy.
What I am trying to say is that this isn't a racist
game and there's nothing racist in this game at all.
It's just a name that I thought best reflected the
original games name but in a modern era over 3 decades
since the original game was released, 33 years to be
exact (thats a lot of threes).
That being said this game fits in 6 GB of VRAM and
should give your GPU's rasterization pipeline a run
for it's money.
The sound effects have been created entirely from scratch
by Per Kristian Risvik, the original Doom sounds having
only been sampled at a measly 11 kHz Kristian took it upon
himself to remake them from scratch in 32 kHz and did a
marvellous job in doing so, sounding identical to the
original sound effects in many cases but in a higher
quality! Having based my game around providing an
up-to-date Doom-esque/Wolfenstein 3D experience it just
made complete sense to also include Kristians sounds!
Check out Kristians website for more information about
how he remade these remarkable sound effects from scratch,
audio reverse engineering at it's finest!
