Summary

  • Start check: campaign field and siege battles no longer start while a side has no spawn or jail. Before, a missing spawn threw halfway through Battle.start(), and a missing jail meant that side could never be eliminated. Teleport also skips a side with no spawn instead of throwing.
  • Staff alert: when a battle is scheduled, online simplefactions.admin players and the log get the battle name, type, province, time (CET) and what's still missing.
  • Start failures: belligerents hear about a failed start once per battle instead of every minute. Staff hear about it again whenever the error changes.
  • Empty sides: a side with nobody online for battle.empty_side_grace_seconds (300) loses, lives left or not, so a battle can't stall when one side logs off.
  • Time cap: battle.time_cap_enabled (off) and time_cap_minutes (120). At the cap, the side with more lives wins, and equal lives is a draw.
  • Draws: a battle with no winner no longer spends the offensive side's initiative.
  • Reward: everyone still present gets it, win, lose or draw. war.yml now gives 4 m.materials.ignitium instead of the crate key.

Deploy note

The live server keeps its own config files, so add to them by hand:

  • config.yml: battle.empty_side_grace_seconds, battle.time_cap_enabled, battle.time_cap_minutes
  • war.yml: the battle_loot changes

Test plan

  • mvn test
  • In game: the staff alert appears at vote close, and a battle with no spawn or jail refuses to start
  • In game: one side logs off and loses after 5 minutes
  • In game: m.materials.ignitium x4 is given at the end of a battle, including a draw

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a 300-second grace period before a battle side with no online players is eliminated.
    • Added an optional 120-minute time cap for campaign field and siege battles. The side with more lives wins; tied lives result in a draw.
    • Campaign battle launches now flag missing setup requirements and report start failures to administrators.
  • Changes
    • Battle rewards are now paid to eligible players after wins, losses, and draws, excluding campaign raids. The default reward is four Ignitium items.
    • Battles with no recognized winner no longer spend offensive fuel.
    • Battle participants are only teleported when their side has a spawn location.

Walkthrough

Battle configuration adds empty-side grace and an optional time cap. Placement checks and launch alerts change. Field and siege battle end conditions change. Loot eligibility and its default reward also change.

Changes

Campaign battle lifecycle

Layer / File(s) Summary
Battle timing settings
src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/Cache.java, src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/loaders/ConfigLoader.java, src/main/resources/config.yml, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/loaders/ConfigLoaderBattlePresenceTest.java
Configuration adds a 300-second empty-side grace period and a disabled-by-default 120-minute cap for field and siege battles. Tests cover defaults and configured values.
Placement validation and launch reporting
src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/engine/core/BattlePlacementValidator.java, src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/engine/core/Battle.java, src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/campaign/CampaignBattleLaunchService.java, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/engine/core/BattlePlacementValidatorTest.java, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/campaign/*, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/campaign/*
Placement validation reports missing spawns and jails. Battle startup skips teleporting participants without a side spawn. Scheduled battle preparation reports placement issues to logs and online admins; start-failure notices are deduplicated. Related tests provide placement data and cover the reporting behavior.
Battle elimination and end conditions
src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/engine/core/Battle.java, src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/engine/win/*, src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/campaign/CampaignBattleOutcomeService.java, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/engine/win/*, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/simplefactions/war/battle/campaign/CampaignBattleOutcomeServiceTest.java
Field and siege elimination checks use the configured grace period for empty sides. The optional time cap ends eligible battles based on remaining lives, with ties producing no winner. Offensive fuel is spent only when an outcome has a winner.

Battle loot

Layer / File(s) Summary
Loot eligibility and default reward

The restart behavior is not shown to fail, but the test bypasses production startup initialization. The change is mergeable with this bounded coverage gap noted.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to b9ff1

Battle outcomes and rewards now interact differently: a draw can pay participants without consuming offensive initiative. Existing eligibility and duplicate-payment checks limit exposure, but the economic effect and live configuration need review.

Retained concerns

  • Low · security · inferred: A loot-enabled campaign draw can reward online participants without spending offensive fuel or advancing the battle slot. This lowers the cost of a reward-bearing outcome; whether players can repeat it across distinct scheduled battles is unverified. Online-participant and per-battle-ID checks limit the exposure.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The affected authority is battle outcome and per-participant reward issuance within an active war, not a newly exposed network or administrative entrypoint. In configured command mode, an eligible reward executes an administrator-supplied command as the server console.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A player who remains an eligible participant through a draw can receive loot even though that outcome spends no offensive fuel. A repeatable farming path was not established: scheduling constraints are unresolved, and duplicate payment for one battle ID is blocked.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Loot payment requires a loot-enabled, non-campaign-raid event, a nonblank battle ID, an unpaid battle ID, and an online player from the event’s participant IDs. These checks constrain but do not price a draw-based reward.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Normal repeated ticks stop evaluating a battle after termination; termination also clears its empty-side tracking. Concurrent direct termination and recovery after a partial event or payout failure were not established by the inspected evidence.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Before enabling the time cap or deploying a command-mode reward, decide whether a draw should grant a reward without consuming initiative, and verify that policy against the live configuration and battle-scheduling limits.

A rabbit checks the battlefield,
Where empty sides have time to yield.
A timer counts; the lives decide,
And loot awaits the fighters’ side.
The burrow cheers as battles close,
With Ignitium for those who rose.

Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.

A campaign field or siege battle no longer starts while a side is
missing its spawn or jail, and staff are told what is missing as soon
as the battle is scheduled. A start failure reaches the belligerents
once instead of every minute.

A side with nobody online for battle.empty_side_grace_seconds loses,
so a battle cannot stall when one side logs off. An optional time cap
(battle.time_cap_enabled, off by default) ends a battle after
time_cap_minutes, with the side holding more lives winning.

Draws no longer spend the offensive side's initiative, and the battle
reward goes to everyone still present, win, lose or draw, now 4
ignitium.

151-166: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Exercise production tracking initialization in the restart test.

setTrackingSinceForTests(restart) overwrites FieldWinService.trackingSince before anchor(...) runs. The only production assignment is the static initializer. If that initialization failed to rebase the timestamp after restart, this test would still provide the correct restart value and pass. Initialize tracking through the production startup path, then test the restored battle without setting trackingSince directly.
