perf: avoid block snapshots in inventory click and close handlers - #38
Conversation
Every inventory click and close ran getHolder() in several Thievery listeners. For a block inventory that copies the whole block state, so a barrel reloaded all of its items just to learn it was not a Thievery menu. Paper's watchdog caught the server thread in StealManager.getStealGuiHolder on Main. Use the non-snapshot getHolder(false)/getLeftSide(false) lookups in the steal, loadout and container click paths, and the per-tick steal title refresh. Container clicks also check the cached owner before reading the container's data file, so unowned containers skip the disk read. MockBukkit does not implement getHolder(boolean), so tests that use its inventories wrap them in TestInventories.withHolderLookup. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

📝 Summary
Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to The changed handlers preserve custom loadout and theft GUI holders, and normal container-owner updates keep the cache current. No actionable merge-blocking risk was established.

Problem
At 16:27 on 2026-10-10, Paper's watchdog on Main caught the server thread stuck in
StealManager.getStealGuiHolder(StealManager.java:115). Every inventory click and close raninventory.getHolder()in several Thievery listeners. For a block inventory that copies the whole block state, so a barrel reloaded all of its items just to learn it was not a Thievery menu. This is the same kind of slowdown #25 fixed for hoppers.Changes
StealManager.getStealGuiHolder(click, close, and every tick per open steal session), the loadout click/close handlers, and the steal title refresh now use Paper's non-snapshotgetHolder(false).ContainerManager.onInventoryClickusesgetHolder(false)/getLeftSide(false). It also checks the cached owner (from perf: avoid block snapshots and disk reads in hopper lock checks #25) before reading the container's data file, so takes from unowned containers skip the disk read.getHolder(boolean), so tests that use its inventories wrap them inTestInventories.withHolderLookup. Without that, 10 tests were silently skipped and the coverage gate failed. A new test checks that an unowned container click reads neither the data file nor a block snapshot.Testing
mvn clean verify: 822 tests, 0 skipped, 100% coverage gate passes.~/holder-test/test.json the host), 23/23 checks:latest.log.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
