🎯 What: Extracted the deeply nested file reading loop in build_ncch_args_contentid into a separate helper function _extract_content_ids.
💡 Why: Reduces nesting, makes the code significantly easier to read and allows the build_ncch_args_contentid to focus solely on building the arguments list.
Verification: Added comprehensive test cases in test_decryptor_contentid.py and ran them using Python's unittest module, and all unit tests passed. Also ran python3 -m py_compile and ruff check.
Result: Improved maintainability and testability of the 3DS decryptor script without altering its underlying behavior.

Summary of Changes

Hello, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request significantly improves the readability, maintainability, and testability of the 3DS decryptor script. It achieves this by refactoring a complex function to reduce nesting and by introducing dedicated unit tests to ensure correct behavior without altering the script's core functionality.

Highlights

  • Code Refactoring: The deeply nested file reading loop within build_ncch_args_contentid was extracted into a new helper function, _extract_content_ids, to improve readability and reduce complexity.
  • Testing: Comprehensive unit tests were added in test_decryptor_contentid.py to verify the functionality of the content ID extraction and argument building logic.
Changelog
  • Cachyos/Scripts/WIP/emu/cia_3ds_decryptor.py
    • Extracted content ID parsing logic from build_ncch_args_contentid into a new private helper function _extract_content_ids.
    • Updated build_ncch_args_contentid to utilize the new _extract_content_ids helper.
  • Cachyos/Scripts/WIP/emu/test_decryptor_contentid.py
    • Added a new test file to house unit tests for the cia_3ds_decryptor.py module.
    • Included tests for _extract_content_ids covering cases with no file, valid content, and invalid lines.
    • Added a test for build_ncch_args_contentid to verify correct argument construction with content IDs.

Code Review Summary

Status: No Issues Found | Recommendation: Merge

Files Reviewed (2 files)
  • Cachyos/Scripts/WIP/emu/cia_3ds_decryptor.py - Refactored to extract _extract_content_ids helper function
  • Cachyos/Scripts/WIP/emu/test_decryptor_contentid.py - New test file with 3 test cases

Review Notes

The refactoring is clean and well-executed:

  • Extracted _extract_content_ids function improves code separation of concerns
  • Added early return for missing file case
  • Tests cover: missing file, valid content IDs with mixed lines, and fallback behavior when NCCH files exceed content IDs

No security, runtime, or logic issues identified.

Code Review

This pull request effectively refactors the build_ncch_args_contentid function by extracting the file parsing logic into a new helper function, _extract_content_ids. This improves code clarity and separation of concerns. The addition of unit tests for the new logic is also a great improvement.

My review includes a suggestion to make the parsing in _extract_content_ids more robust by handling potential ValueError exceptions when converting the ContentID string to an integer. I've also suggested an additional test case to cover this scenario, ensuring the script doesn't crash on malformed input.

The call to int(cid, 16) is not wrapped in a try...except block. If content.txt contains a malformed ContentID (e.g., ContentId: not-a-hex-value), this will raise a ValueError and crash the script. It's safer to handle this potential error to make the parsing more robust.

      if cid:
        try:
          content_ids.append(int(cid, 16))
        except ValueError:
          logging.warning("Ignoring invalid ContentID format in %s: '%s'", content_txt.name, cid)

This is a good set of test cases. To make it even more robust, I'd suggest adding a case with a malformed hex value for the ContentID. This would ensure the parser can gracefully handle such errors without crashing, which it currently does not. This test will fail until the corresponding error handling is added to _extract_content_ids.
