I am opening this PR to propagate some changes needed to process 2017 and 2018 samples. These were never merged in the WMass repository, and according to David the central code would not work. This PR solves the problem.
Before merging it I would like to make sure there aren't further uncommitted updates to add to this PR. It should be ready in few days
