The use of isEmpty() is generally to be preferred because it is possible for a List.size() implementation to be slow, but isEmpty() to be fast.

These are some improvements to
org.apache.jackrabbit.core.state.ChildNodeEntries."Use a fixed empty name map" is the most important commit of the four. The other three are code improvements.
