I'll block this one for a week, and see if I can push the newspaper archives to get back online in some form

We want this to be a document of record, if there was a typo in the original document, it's better to handle as a (sic).

If errors are preserved, it means that linguists may be able to look into spelling errors and determine alternate pronunciations of words.

But, the probability is that the corrections here are correct and it's just a typo

We do want to preserve alternative spellings.
