Many of these pages are very useful I totally missed them because they weren't in the toctree
Currently, the link points to github user content. This PR displays the txt as txt

Various extra changes relative to #166 which are less clearcut improvements - but which help me read the relevant docs (e.g. surfacing v2 API)
