This first PR on the "imaging-spectroscopy" branch is necessary to make the current imaging-spectroscopy software (which has not yet been uploaded and is still being tested) compatible with STIX-GSW. The intention is NOT to merge these updates to the main branch. Instead, in collaboration with @grazwegian, we aim to develop a better (and more "universal") approach to handling issue #154. Once this issue is resolved, the STIX-GSW on the imaging-spectroscopy branch can be updated, and the imaging-spectroscopy software can be adapted to this new solution.
This PR relates to the first action item listed in #173.
