I've found you forgot to add «Track Remote Branch» to window menu (perhaps someone is needed; there's a hotkey hint).
I suggest to ignore invalid branch names (
origin/master -> HEADor* some-branch). Also I suggest to trim branch names when it possible (when list doesn't contain current branch with an asterisk at beginning of its name).
