My Arch Linux

Arch Linux used to be the best Linux distro for my personal preference. But the systemd’s configuration is so different from Unix philosophy (for me is small and lean tools with not too many dependencies) that after search around on Internet, I still don’t know how to create core dump file. I am forced to use systemd coredump! Why am I forced to use what systemd think is the best?

So I switch to Artix with OpenRC as well as OpenBSD (and FreeBSD).

OpenBSD

  • 2021.05.30: Using USB image alone, it is impossible to install OpenBSD because it is not able to find base.tar.gz. However, using Internet, it is able to download all the installation files and the installation is successful. Grub2 chainloading is a bit difficult because I didn’t read the reddit message properly. Grub2 requires all the names to be in small letters.

  • 2020.12: OpenBSD 6.8 is slow on a slow machine. So I have to explore how to do screencasting below. However, all attempts failed because the processor is not able to mix both video and audio into the media container. The audio skipping is so serious that the screencasting is a total disaster.

    1. ffmpeg -f x11grab -framerate 12 -codec:v libx264rgb -crf 0 -preset -ultrafast video.mkv

    2. aucat -o audio.wav

OpenBSD

  • 2021.05.30: Attempted to install NetBSD 9.2 using USB image. It is able to detect ext4 as ext2 and remove it and replace it with FFSv2. However, the installation failed because the installer is not able to find base.tar.gz which should be on the USB image.
