This fix uses sum w/the option flag omitnan for matlabversions R2023a and later. Matlab documentation suggests that option flag doesn't work for R2022b and earlier, so it uses nansum as before in those cases.
It works on my machine with R2023b, it should work on yours but if you merge it you may want to check to be sure.
