fix macOS build - #2767
fix macOS build#2767
Conversation
Seen on macOS ... and once it is there, all subsequent PMDA Install or Remove operations fail.
The old and mouldy bison that ships with macOS won't cut the mustard for the %destructor pragmas recently added to derive_parser.y.in in libpcp. But we need to dodge the macOS installed one and dig out the homebrew one that is a keg-only install and so the executable is hidden in a secret bin directory that configure.ac needs to know how to find.

parsers selected by AC_PROG_YACC, including byacc, are found when installed;
preserve the existing Homebrew-first Bison search on macOS and apply the same
fix to the generated configure script.

progress output instead of relying on PCP_ECHO_PROG, PCP_ECHO_N, and PCP_ECHO_C,
which are not initialized locally; also use printf for the newline in the scp
failure branch.

- Around line 184-186: Update the lock-reclamation logic around __pname and the
removal of pmda.auto.update so an empty or incomplete identity is treated as
potentially active, not proof of a stale lock. Reclaim a lock only after safely
establishing its owner has stopped, and ensure concurrent rc_pmcd processes
cannot both acquire it.

Do not remove a lock while its owner is still writing it.
pmlock creates the file before it writes $$ rc_pmcd. If another rc_pmcd reads the new file during that interval, __pname is empty and this branch removes an active lock. Both processes can then acquire the lock in succession and run PMDA setup concurrently. Make stale-lock reclamation safe against concurrent acquisition; an empty identity alone does not prove that the owner has stopped.

Prevent the empty-lock timeout from spinning.
When the 10-second wait expires, a failed removal leaves the empty lock in place. The code then falls through to the empty-owner check, and the next loop iteration runs without sleep. Add continue after successful removal and retain a delay when removal fails.
The second “bogus owner” removal is conditional. It logs only if the lock still exists or is recreated and the second rm succeeds.
