Radius Sanding Machine

The radius sanding machine is designed to solve the tiring process of sanding a radius into your bracing, as well as the sides of the guitar. It makes quick work of a job that typically takes a lot of time and energy.

The machine is built with standard lumber. Mechanical parts are sourced from Amazon & Home Depot.

Lumber

  • 2x4's
  • 3/4" plywood
  • 3/4" MDF

Features

  • Motor speed reducing pulleys (1750 RPM -> 250 RPM)
  • Removable radius dishes

Modification/Editing Notes

  • The Radius Dish Machine.3dm file is a Rhino CAD master. If you have Rhino, you can edit/modify the design source
  • If you make modifications, please submit a Pull Request with the changes so we can incorporate and make your changes available to others. (or send us an email with the file and we'll review the modifications and publish)

Build Notes

  • Your motor mount plate will vary depending on your specific motor. I've listed the dimensions used in this build as a reference.
  • The motor mount plate is hinged to allow for belt tensioning. Hinge on the side towards the middle of the machine and use a screw/bolt on the opposing side as a tensioner.
  • The shaft will likely need to be sanded in order to remove the coating that's applied from the manufacturer. Otherwise, you'll have trouble fitting it through the pillow block bearing.
  • The go-card axle hub was tapped to receive a 1/4"-20 bolt in order to secure it to the shaft. Additionally, I ground a flat spot into the shaft for the bolt to seat against.
