Data Freshness and Disclaimer

Rates are collected from external sources and may be delayed, unavailable, or changed when those sources update their websites or documents. The application is for informational purposes only. Verify important transactions with the original data source.

API Endpoints

Base URL: https://nepal-live-rates.onrender.com

Endpoint	Description
GET /api/forex	Live foreign exchange rates published by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
GET /api/gold	Current gold rates in tola and gram with daily change tracking.
GET /api/silver	Current silver rates in tola and gram with daily change tracking.
GET /api/petrol	Live petrol prices by area across Nepal (NOC).
GET /api/diesel	Live diesel prices by area across Nepal (NOC).
GET /api/lpg	Domestic LPG cylinder prices and official NOC document links.
GET /api/kerosene	Live kerosene prices by area across Nepal (NOC).
GET /api/aviation	Aviation fuel rates including Jet A-1 and duty-free by area.
GET /api/crude	Global crude oil prices for WTI and Brent markets.

History endpoints such as /api/gold/history and /api/forex/history/:currency are also available for chart data. LPG document data is available from /api/lpg/documents.

Installation

Prerequisites

• Node.js 18 or newer
• npm
• A static file server for the frontend

Clone Repository

git clone https://github.com/pradipNP/nepal-live-rates.git
cd nepal-live-rates

Install Backend Dependencies

cd backend
npm install

Start Backend Server

npm start

Local API: http://localhost:5001/api/forex

In a second terminal, from the repository root, serve the frontend with a static file server:

npx serve frontend

The frontend currently requests the deployed API URL. Running the local backend does not automatically change the API URL used by the frontend scripts.

Troubleshooting

• If the deployed API is slow on the first request, wait a few seconds for the Render service to wake up.
• If a rate is unavailable, the upstream source may be temporarily unavailable or may have changed its page or document format.
• If the frontend cannot load data locally, check the browser console and confirm that the API endpoint is reachable.
• The backend listens on the PORT environment variable when provided; otherwise it uses port 5001.

Contributing

Bug reports, source-data issues, and feature suggestions are welcome. For code changes, open an issue first for larger changes, then submit a pull request with a clear description and screenshots when the user interface is affected.
