Protected method types are needed for sub-classing support. Else mypy complains like:
"PrettyPrinter" has no attribute "_format_dict_items".

This method doesn't seem to exist in any Python version I've checked.

Really sorry to waste your time with such subtle things. I'm guilty that this was the first time I used this Copilot thing (out of curiosity); thought that this is such a simple task that even the KI should be able to do it ... well ... no more words ...

According to mypy_primer, this change has no effect on the checked open source code. 🤖🎉
