[Moon] snap/snap-llama.cpp: LLAMA_BUILD_UI now defaults OFF — server Web UI dropped (upstream v0.3.0 to v0.4.0) #317
Maintained package:talhaHavadar/snap-llama.cpp (snap) Upstream change:ggml-org/llama.cppv0.3.0 to v0.4.0 Renovate PR:#316
Gap Description
In llama.cpp v0.4.0 the top-level CMakeLists.txt flipped the default for the embedded Web UI option from ON to OFF.
The llama-cpp part in snap/snapcraft.yaml builds the server (LLAMA_BUILD_SERVER defaults ON in a standalone build) but never explicitly sets -DLLAMA_BUILD_UI. Under v0.3.0 the Web UI was embedded by default; after this bump it will silently be built without the embedded Web UI. Users who open the llama-server web interface shipped in the snap will lose it unless we opt back in.
Upstream Evidence
-option(LLAMA_BUILD_UI "llama: build the embedded Web UI for server" ON)-option(LLAMA_USE_PREBUILT_UI "llama: use prebuilt UI from HF Bucket when available (requires LLAMA_BUILD_UI=ON)" ON)+option(LLAMA_BUILD_UI "llama: build the embedded Web UI for server" OFF)+option(LLAMA_USE_PREBUILT_UI "llama: use prebuilt UI from HF Bucket when available" ON)
Current Packaging State
The llama-cpp part's cmake-parameters currently contains:
There is no -DLLAMA_BUILD_UI flag, so the build now inherits the new upstream default of OFF.
Suggested Fix
File:snap/snapcraft.yaml
Change: Add -DLLAMA_BUILD_UI=ON to the cmake-parameters list in the llama-cpp part to preserve the embedded server Web UI that shipped in v0.3.0.
Note:LLAMA_USE_PREBUILT_UI already defaults ON; building the UI may need network access at build time to fetch the prebuilt UI from the HF bucket, or the UI is built from source. If the self-hosted/offline builders cannot reach the HF bucket, also consider whether the UI build stage has the required toolchain (node) available.
Why This Matters
llama-server's built-in Web UI is the primary graphical entry point for many snap users. Silently dropping it on a version bump is a user-facing regression; explicitly pinning -DLLAMA_BUILD_UI=ON keeps behaviour stable and intentional across upstream default changes.

lets add LLAMA_BUILD_UI=ON to our snapcraft
packaging: pin -DLLAMA_BUILD_UI=ON for llama-server Web UI
