Implementing Patterns

Intro to Writing Patterns

Pattern Ideas

Shader Patterns

For Shader patterns, use the ShaderToy pattern. Shader files are editable and reloadable in the UI. Make sure you change the application associated with .frag to something reasonable. By default it was trying to edit with XCode on my machine. Right-click a .frag file, Get Info, Open With..., and then select 'Change All...' I use SublimeText 2 (not free though). You can also edit them at Shadertoy.

The current ShaderToyAudio pattern only passes in equalizer bars. Not the full FFT and Audio buffer like examples on http://shadertoy.com. I will be fixing that in the next couple of days.

Animated Pixel Art Tools

I use aesprite. It can import sprite sheets and convert them to animated GIFs, which can be used by the AnimatedSpritePP pattern. Supports onion skinning (shows faint previous and next frames for animation reference). Windows, Mac, Linux $14.99

Piskel Free browser based editor. Nice geometric, animated example on Piskel here

Pixen Mac and iPad ($15 / $5)

GraphicsGale Windows. Supports onion skinning. Free.

Pixel Art Maker Web. No animation.

2D Will Never Die Pixel Art tutorials etc. Cool site.

Pixel Joint Top pixel art forum.
