  • Closes Tree "broadcasting" #199
  • Tests added
  • Passes pre-commit run --all-files
  • New functions/methods are listed in api.rst
  • Changes are summarized in docs/source/whats-new.rst

A starting point for implementing tree broadcasting to enshrine some of the test cases discussed during todays excellent meeting. @TomNicholas feel free to take this over! Just wanted to push this, so I do not forget.

Going to close this here. The idea is tracked upstream in pydata/xarray#9596, and the specific code here will likely be outdated due to the changes in coordinate inheritance.
