CLI Reference
The egc CLI is a thin dispatcher (scripts/egc.js) that spawns a dedicated script per subcommand. This page lists every subcommand as defined in the source, with the description string from the CLI's own help text.
egc <command> [args...]
egc [install args...]
Without a recognized command, arguments are routed to install (so egc typescript behaves like egc install typescript).
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
egc init |
First-run bootstrap (cognitive protocol + MCP registration + doctor) |
egc install |
Bare: set up the engine and ask about the prompt library (default no; --prompt-library and --no-prompt-library decide without the question). With --target and --profile: install the library into one tool |
egc plan |
Inspect selective-install manifests and resolved plans |
egc install-plan |
Alias for plan
|
egc catalog |
Discover install profiles and component IDs |
egc consult |
Recommend EGC components and profiles from a natural language query |
egc consolidate |
Compact oversized project state files into layered summaries |
egc export |
Print the decrypted memory document for a project or the global scope, as text or JSON |
egc list-installed |
Inspect install-state files for the current context |
egc doctor |
Diagnose missing or drifted EGC-managed files |
egc repair |
Restore drifted or missing EGC-managed files |
egc auto-update |
Pull latest EGC changes and reinstall the current managed targets |
egc status |
Query the EGC SQLite state store status summary |
egc overview |
Aggregated read-only view of every per-project memory state |
egc verify |
Run the project verification command and record a receipt for the commit gate |
egc sessions |
List or inspect EGC sessions from the SQLite state store |
egc replay |
List or replay recorded sessions with timeline scrubbing |
egc prompt |
Execute an LLM prompt via the Gemini backend (EGC Bridge) |
egc session-inspect |
Emit canonical EGC session snapshots from dmux or Gemini history targets |
egc loop-status |
Inspect Gemini transcripts for stale loop wakeups and pending tool results |
egc uninstall |
Remove EGC-managed files recorded in install-state |
egc watch |
Watch tool config files and sync state changes bidirectionally |
egc telemetry |
Manage anonymous usage telemetry (status, on, off) |
egc dashboard |
Start the EGC Dashboard (stop and status as sub-args) |
egc team |
Team memory sync: init, sync, or status |
egc budget |
Budget guardian: set, status, reset token and cost limits per session |
egc plugin |
Plugin registry: install, list, remove, update EGC plugins |
egc run |
Run a command through the Token Crusher (--raw skips compression) |
egc saved |
Accumulated Token Crusher savings, short summary |
egc gain |
Full savings panel (--history for the run-by-run log) |
egc discover |
Scan recent session transcripts for crushable output that skipped the crusher |
egc crusher-shim |
Install, uninstall or check the PATH-level Token Crusher binary shim (git, npm, pip, gh and friends) for tools without hook support |
egc claw |
NanoClaw REPL: persistent session-aware agent loop with Markdown history |
egc harness-audit |
Score the harness setup across tool coverage, quality gates, memory, and security |
egc-install is the legacy install entrypoint, retained for existing flows and equivalent to egc install. Since v1.1.21 egc help <command> exits 0 for every subcommand, including crusher-shim, session-inspect, prompt and claw.

egc export --scope globalRead-only: the state file and the key are never modified. Exit codes: 0 printed, 1 usage error or a state file or key that cannot be read or trusted, 2 no memory for the scope, 3 encrypted memory whose key is missing.
egc install --profile <name> accepts one of the profiles defined in manifests/install-profiles.json:
| Profile | Description |
|---|---|
minimal |
Low-context setup: rules, agents, commands, platform configs, and quality workflow support, no hook runtime |
core |
Minimal baseline plus commands, hooks, platform configs, and quality workflow support |
developer |
Default engineering profile for most EGC users working across app codebases |
security |
Security-heavy setup with baseline runtime support and security-specific guidance |
research |
Research and content-oriented setup for investigation, synthesis, and publishing workflows |
full |
Complete install with all currently classified modules |
See Configuration for how profiles map to install modules, and Supported-Tools for valid --target values.
